Happy International Translation Day!
The international translation day is celebrated every 30 of September on Saint Jerome’s day. Saint Jerome was the first Latin translator of the Bible and is considered the patron saint of translators. Nevertheless, the celebration day is, at present, a secular and non-denominational event.
The official celebration started in 1991 promoted by the International Federation of Translation (FIT) as a way to praise the important work performed by translators.
The economic and cultural impact of translation is widely recognized. This year the FIT is emphasizing the role of translators as cultural mediators with “special responsibility to help preserve multilingualism and promote smooth interaction among all the world’s languages”.
Our translation agency has always promoted a cultural approach to translation that requires a deep understanding of the cultures involved. Translation can shape our view of other cultures and therefore translators have the big responsibility of portray those cultures accurately.
Today, we can to thank all the translators for the hard work done and encourage them to keep improving their role on overcoming language and cultural barriers. In spite of all the improvement that machine translations have undergone, nothing will replace human translators.
Congratulations on your day!
